It’s been awhile since I shared details from my glutton lifestyle. I’m trying to put an end to it and get healthy and in shape for summer and/or a lifetime so this past week I ate like I was dying. Decided to try Bareburger after work one day with my cousin. I learned about the place via Yelp and word of mouth from friends, but never had the opportunity to check it out. It’s known for having all organic food and having different meats options, such as elk, duck, and boar.
With multiple locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, we went to their one open Long Island location in Great Neck located on Middle Neck Road. We were seated immediately then greeted by a super friendly waiter who was eager to fill us in on all that Bareburger has to offer. He told us about their newest appetizer which was not on the menu, “macho fries.” It was described as their french fries topped with salsa, peppers, jalapeños, guacamole topped with melted pepper jack cheese. I was going to give it a cold hard pass since I came for a burger and all of that seemed a bit much, but my cousin being a mouse living in a human’s body was sold with the mention of cheese.
It was actually really good. Basically nachos with fries instead of tortilla chips.
I went with the Country Fair burger which hadbison, aged cheddar, green leaf lettuce, dill pickles, red onions, tomato and mayo on a brioche bun. The burger was delicious, but there was a little too much mayo for my liking, but that’s my only complaint.
My cousin got the Supreme burger which was beef, colby jack, country bacon, green leaf lettuce, onion rings, chopped fries and special sauce. She subbed bison for beef when I told her that it was a healthier lighter beef. I stole her onion rings. They were delicious and light. She enjoyed her meal. We both did.
At the end of the meal we were both satisfied and extremely full. The fries is what set us over the top, but we did not feel that gross greasy fast food feeling that you sometimes do with other burger places. Definitely would return there and try other menu items. It was fairly priced and delicious.
