What we ordered:

Came to Besito for brunch on a Sunday during my birthday weekend in late November 2021. They were very accommodating when making the reservation. Originally, I had about 15 people and they offered a private room with no additional cost or need to do a prix fixe. The restaurant is spacious. The day of the number reduced to 8 people and they had a large table for us in the general dining area. It was a Sunday and they had a 2 for 1 margarita special. A friend and I ordered the mango margarita that we both didn’t really like. It did not taste like a typical mango margarita. My cousins frozen margaritas that they enjoyed. I switched to the watermelon margarita after and liked that way more. It was very refreshing. I liked that you were a weren’t obligated to order the same exact one each time. We started off with the guacamole to share. It was pretty disappointing for a Mexican restaurant. We all joked that it felt like the person making it got distracted and forgot to finish it. It was missing salt and lime, but we’re easygoing so we just asked for some and jazzed it up ourselves at the table. The chips also came with salsa which was good. For our entrees, most of us ordered their iron skillets tacos. I got the mixtos which had grilled skirt steak, chorizo, chicken, queso chihuahua served with a nopales salad and corn tortillas. The tacos came with rice and beans for the table, but it was not a big portion considering how many people we had, but again we made it work.

One of my cousins ordered the salmon salad with pistachio crusted salmon, mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, roasted corn, avocado, queso fresco, chipotle cream dressing. It’s one of the best looking salads I’ve seen and I am not a big salad fan. Her husband got the filete de res, filet mignon which came with a side of plantains with queso fresco. He was tearing his food up so apparently it was good. My other cousin got the arrachera, grilled skirt steak with an arugula salad that could not be subbed which he was disappointed about, because like me, not a big salad fan. The steak was a good portion though so he enjoyed his meal and we let him have most of the rice and beans. They came out with a tres leches cake for my birthday which I ate by myself. It was good. Overall, the meal was enjoyable. The portion sizes are decent. Enough to keep you satisfied. The prices are a little high for Mexican food, but for the neighborhood it’s to be expected. The servers were attentive and it was a good dining experience. I’d go back again.
Bottom line: A special occasion type of place, because you can get better Mexican food for better prices, but you go here for a more upscale Mexican food experience. Portions are on the smaller side, but overall, the food is good and you’ll still leave satisfied.
